After the victories of both AMZ cars <<eiger>> and <<gotthard driverless>>, a new season is about to start. The team of <<pilatus driverless> is formed and is eager to continue the success of the previous years. Meanwhile, the work of the last years was condensed in publications at the ICRA and the in-house simulation tool FSSim was made publicly available.
Officially the victory of both AMZ cars, <<eiger>> and <<gotthard driverless>>, marked the end of the driverless season, however, the team did not call it a day yet. Besides writing exams we organised further testing days to push the car closer to its limits. Furthermore, the result and experiences were revised and condensed in publications for example for the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA). In the spirit of open sourcing we also published our self-developed simulation platform «FSSim» on a crossteam git repository.
At this point the current team had just been assembled. It consists of 30 master students from more than a dozen nations and once again of numerous disciplines. The past two season provide a solid foundation on which we can build on. After analyzing each of their strengths and weaknesses we focused on drafting this year’s innovations in the following weeks including the concept phase of our algorithms, the choice of
sensors and the design of the additional actuators. Although the season just started, the competitions in Summer are already close. We are delighted to announce that we will compete in Formula Student East in Hungary and in Formula Student Germany with the best driverless teams from around the globe.
